Chapter 1 Patterns in Mathematics
The chapter aims to find out the existence of patterns in mathematics and the explanations for why they exist. Number sequences, visualizing number sequences through pictures or diagrams, and the existence of relations between number sequences can be very fruitful ways to understand mathematical patterns. Shape sequences and their relation to number sequences are also discussed in this chapter in detail.
Chapter 2 Lines and Angles
This chapter introduces you to the basic ideas of geometry like points, lines, rays, line segments, and angles. These ideas help the students understand the notion of an angle by comparing angles with and without superimposition. Classification of angles into straight angles, zero angles, perpendicular angles, reflex angles, complete angles, acute angles, obtuse angles, and right angles will help the student understand more advanced topics in geometry such as the construction and analysis of different shapes.
Chapter 3 Number Play
In this chapter, students will use basic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to solve different number patterns and will learn to use numbers and operations in new ways. Supercells, palindromes, and Kaprekar constant are some new and noteworthy topics discussed in the chapter.
Chapter 4 Data Handling and Presentation
In this chapter, you will find ways different ways to collect, organize, interpret, and represent data. Pictographs and bar graphs are the two ways discussed in the chapter to visually represent data.
The main focus of this chapter is to make students learn how to handle data to find answers to specific questions or inquiries. You will also learn how to use a scale for pictographs and bar graphs to accurately and effectively convey the desired information.
Chapter 5 Prime Time
Prime Time helps the students understand concepts like common factors, common multiples, factors/divisors, perfect numbers, prime numbers, composite numbers, twin primes, and co-primes with the help of examples and problems given in the chapter. The whole chapter revolves around the concept of finding prime factorization of numbers. Divisibility rules are also the prime focus of this chapter.
Chapter 6 Perimeter and Area
This chapter refreshes and revises the concept of finding the perimeter of figures like rectangles, squares, and triangles. Besides this, it also encourages students to devise a formula for finding the perimeter of regular polygons. The chapter focuses on finding the area of various regions by breaking them into unit squares, triangles, or rectangles whose area can be easily calculated.
Chapter 7 Fractions
The fraction chapter introduces the concept of fractional units, proper fractions, improper fractions, mixed fractions, and fractions as equal shares, which you have already learned in earlier classes. New topics that you will learn in this chapter include plotting fractions on number lines, expressing fractions in the lowest form, comparing fractions, and lastly addition and subtraction of fractions by Brahma Gupta’s method.
Chapter 8 Playing with Constructions
This chapter checks your creative endeavor and helps you construct familiar shapes like circles, squares, and rectangles. Properties of squares and rectangles are the underlying concepts that students need to learn while attempting to construct them. This chapter makes you well-versed in the usage of the compass in drawing perpendicular and other angles without the use of the protractor.
Chapter 9 Symmetry
In this chapter Class 6 students are introduced to a new concept called symmetry and symmetrical figures. It is quite an engaging chapter where you don’t have to worry about mathematical calculations and have to just rely on your analytical abilities. Some key topics covered in the chapter are line of symmetry, angle of symmetry, rotational symmetry, and center of rotation. Students need to visualize the shapes in their minds to get better at this chapter.
Chapter 10 The Other Side of Zero
The last chapter makes you aware of the fact that besides counting numbers and zero, there exist some other numbers known as negative numbers. Negative numbers, positive numbers along with zero form Integers. You will learn about addition and subtraction of integers in this chapter through various innovative and fun-loving ways. You can also find the use of Brahma Gupta’s method in solving problems related to the integers here.
